St. Maarten hosted the coordinators from four Caribbean countries, namely Barbados, Suriname, Turks & Caicos and Trinidad & Tobago.
Facilitators for the three-day event were Sharon Mottley, Chief Operations Officer of CCNAPC; Particia Beard, Director of the National STI, HIV & AIDS Programme in Anguilla; Suzette Moses-Burton, HIV/AIDS Programme Manager of St. Maarten; and Salorne McDonald, Behaviour Change Communications Manager, Society for Family Health, PSI Caribbean (Trinidad & Tobago). |

This year, Scotiabank
will facilitate public counselling and testing at select branches across the
region on Friday, June 26. On Saturday, June 27 in Barbados, a special outreach
will be done to enable after-hours testing at select locations. Regional Testing Day was initiated by the
Caribbean Broadcast Media Partnership on HIV/AIDS (CBMP) in 2008 with support
from Scotiabank in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Pan
Caribbean Partnership on HIV/AIDS (PANCAP).
On Regional Testing Day, people will be provided
the opportunity to visit select Scotiabank branches to participate in private,
voluntary HIV counselling and testing conducted by trained and experienced
personnel from the Ministry of Health.
This year, the number of participating territories has more than doubled with 14
territories participating. These territories are
Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Guyana, Turks and Caicos Islands, St. Lucia,
St. Kitts & Nevis, Antigua & Barbuda, Haiti, Cayman Islands, Dominican
Republic, Puerto Rico, Anguilla, Jamaica and Grenada.

The Pan American Health Organization HIV
Caribbean Office (PHCO) recently conducted its first regional
activity in St. Maarten.
PHCO organised the workshop in its role as executing agency for the
European Union Project geared towards strengthening the integration of
the British and Dutch Overseas Territories in the regional response to
HIV/AIDS.
The theme of the workshop was "Strengthening the Capacity of the Dutch and British Overseas Countries and Territories to Reduce Stigma & Discrimation, enhance delivery of HIV Services, and strengthen participation of people living with HIV in the HIV response: A Community Consultation."
During the two-day meeting, members from the six Dutch territories working in the field of HIV/AIDS met to discuss the logistics of this project, and give their input.
